Aerodrome traffic circuit
In the aerodrome traffic circuit you make all turns to the left, unless the Canada Flight Supplement specifies right turns or the appropriate ATC unit authorizes otherwise (CAR 602.96(3)(c)).
- Default circuit direction is left-hand.
- A right-hand circuit needs a CFS specification or ATC authorization; it is not the pilot's choice.
- The rule applies at any uncontrolled or controlled aerodrome (CAR 602.96(1)), not just aerodromes inside an MF area.
Trap: assuming right circuits are up to the pilot, or that the rule only applies at controlled or MF aerodromes. It applies everywhere, and right turns take a published CFS note or ATC authorization.
